The Poznań Choir Polihymnia, established in 1983 by Professor Janusz Dzięcioł, has achieved notable success in numerous festivals and competitions, including Chorfest Magdeburg 2022, Musica Eterna Roma 2016, and Prague Advent Music Festival 2015. The ensemble, having received awards at events across Europe, has performed in various countries, collaborating with orchestras and performing a diverse repertoire spanning medieval to contemporary compositions. Under the direction of Professor Tomasz Dzięcioł since 2013, the choir has showcased its versatility in monumental works such as Mozart's "Requiem" and Beethoven's "IX Symphony." For 30 years, Professor Janusz Dzięcioł led the ensemble, fostering musical excellence and supporting students at the Poznań Academy of Music. In recent years, Polihymnia has faced organizational changes but continued its pursuit of musical excellence. Despite a hiatus during the pandemic, the choir resumed activities and triumphed at Chorfest Magdeburg 2022, winning in the mixed choirs category. This success reflects the choir's enduring commitment to international choral events, fostering friendships and celebrating a shared passion for music.
For 30 years, the artistic management of the choir rested in the hands of Professor Janusz Dzięcioł, later taken over by Professor Tomasz Dzięcioł, who is the current conductor of the choir. The signature characteristic of Poznań Choir Polihymnia is a sensitivity to sound color, which paves the way for our musical explorations and the selection of pieces.
