Vachův sbor moravských učitelek (Vach's Choir of Moravian Teachers) celebrated its 110th anniversary last year, and thanks to its activities, it maintains a stable position within the cultural events of Brno and its surroundings. Throughout its existence, the choir has been conducted by outstanding personalities. Apart from its founder, Professor Ferdinand Vach (1912–1934), the choir was led for numerous years by Břetislav Bakala (1936–1958), followed by Zbyněk Mrkos (1958–1961), and others. In cooperation with the Czech-Slovenian Society, the choir organizes regular festivals with Slovenian choirs, alternating between Slovenia and the Czech Republic. This tradition reached its 9th year in 2023, with the VSMU hosting the event. In 2018, at the international choir competition Mundi Cantant in Olomouc, the choir was awarded the silver medal in the adult choir category and the golden medal for the interpretation of sacred music. Since the autumn of 2018, the choir has been led by its current conductor, MgA. Patrik Buchta, a graduate of choir conducting at the Faculty of Music of Janáček Academy of Performing Arts and a student of organ at the Brno Conservatory. He aims to enrich the stable repertoire with works by contemporary, not-so-famous Czech and Slovak composers (e.g., Petr Koronthály, Václav Ptáček, Alfréd Zemanovský). Under the present conductor's leadership, the choir was awarded the golden medal at the Mundi Cantant 2023 competition in the adult equal-voice choirs category.
Patrik Buchta graduated from Biskupské gymnázium v Brně in 2017 and was admitted to JAMU in Brno, where he will complete his master's degree later this year. Concurrently, he is studying the organ at Brno’s conservatory. His professional career includes collaboration with other choirs such as the mixed choir Ensemble versus, the Church choir in Šlapanice, or Schola Brněnské Mládeže. He has also worked with several other ensembles, including Vox iuvenalis, Choirestra, or the mixed choir JAMU, and has participated in numerous conducting master classes with Czech or foreign choirmasters (such as Andrea Brown, Václav Luks, Jaroslav Brych, Miriam Němcová, Josef Surovík). In addition to his career as a choirmaster, he serves as a liturgic organist at the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the Church of Saints John the Evangelist and John the Baptist in Brno.
