Helsingin Laulu is a warm and goal-oriented mixed choir comprised of approximately 40 singers. Established in 1951, the choir has been under the direction of Hanna Remes, DMus, since 1998. Known for its warm enthusiasm, the choir boasts an extensive repertoire that spans classical choral music, traditional songs, experimental pieces, lively rhythm music, and even songs in Helsinki's slang. The choir is dedicated to fostering the musical and vocal development of its members. Throughout the years, Helsingin Laulu has achieved success in numerous national and international choir competitions.
Hanna Remes, born in Kemi, Finland, graduated with a doctorate in music from the DocMus unit of the Sibelius Academy of Music at the University of Arts Helsinki in the spring of 2021. She also holds a degree as a music educator from the Central Finland Conservatory. Hanna Remes conducts four Finnish choirs (Helsingin Laulu, Kilven Kuoro, the Chamber Choir SonorEnsemble, and the Association Choir FluoCanto). In addition to her role as a conductor, Hanna Remes works as a diocesan secretary at the Diocese of Helsinki Cathedral and serves as the artistic director of the Mixed Choir Association.
