Olbia Folk Ensemble was founded within Lorenzo Perosi choir in Olbia. After a year of preparation the ensemble has debuted at the XIV International Festival of Sacred Music in Olbia in 2008. In 2009, following the example of Lorenzo Perosi Choir they have performed at the Miskolc townhall in Hungary and in St. Basil’s Church in Milan. Afterwards, new singers entered the ensemble and brought new views on the music, mostly Sardinian folk music. In 2014 Olbia Folk Ensemble released their first CD entitled Lu Trambucconi. Their repertoire is vast and includes various genres, sacred and secular music, Sardinian folksongs and their own compositions.
Cristiano Deriu comes from a family of singers and since early childhood he has been studying the techniques of Sardinian choral singing. He is a real master of the art of folk choral music, student of the so-called school of Ozieri that has a long tradition of folk choral singing. Together with his brothers he is a founder of the Choir of Loiri where he was singing tenore solos for several years. Later on he decided to concentrate on the classical vocal polyphony and left the choir. He participated in courses by Maestro Scattolin and Gentilini and together with his friends founded Olbia Folk Ensemble in 2007 that he has been leading since its beginnings.
