The Brighton Grammar Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble dedicated to nurturing young musicians and celebrating the art of string performance. Comprising talented boys aged 13 to 16, the orchestra rehearses weekly before school to develop ensemble skills, musical sensitivity, and stylistic awareness across a diverse range of repertoire. Under the direction of Mr Harry Tsai, the orchestra performs music from the Baroque to contemporary periods, as well as arrangements of popular and film music that inspire creativity and collaboration. The ensemble appears regularly at school concerts, collaborates with soloists in concerto performances, and performs at community events and carols, where it is recognised for its expressive playing and cohesive sound. Guided by Brighton Grammar’s values of personal best learning and positive masculinity, the orchestra encourages students to strive for excellence, show respect and empathy in collaboration, and support one another in achieving their musical goals. Through this approach, members not only refine their musicianship but also develop confidence, discipline, and teamwork that extend beyond the rehearsal room. The Brighton Grammar Chamber Orchestra continues to grow each year, fostering a culture of excellence, passion, and pride in music-making within the school community.
