The Hudson High School Chamber Orchestra hails from Hudson, Ohio, USA. Located 25 miles southeast of Cleveland, Hudson was first settled in 1799 by David Hudson, a colonial shareholder in the Connecticut Western Reserve. Throughout its history, Hudson has seen tremendous growth while maintaining a quaint colonial town atmosphere. During Civil War times, Hudson was a very active abolitionist town led by John Brown, whose birth house remains a landmark in town. Hudson was an important link on the famous Underground Railroad helping slaves reach freedom into Canada. After the Civil War, Hudson endured economic and social difficulties into the early 20th century. Hudson native, John Ellsworth, revived the town with his leadership and fortune making it possible for the town to prosper once more. His legacy includes the Hudson Clock Tower on the town square which is Hudson most enduring landmark. Today, Hudson is a desirable home for families due to the quality of education, quaint suburban neighborhoods and abundance of recreational activities throughout the Cuyahoga Valley. Hudson is easily accessible via highway and is a quick trip to Cleveland and Akron for cultural events. The Hudson City School District provides an educational program, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, which maximizes the intellectual, physical and social and emotional development of each child in a safe and nurturing environment. With over 5,000 students, we are consistently in the top 1% of school districts in Ohio, and rank in the top 3% nationally by Newsweek Magazine. Our schools produce graduates with the capacity for success. 95.52% of our students attend four-year colleges. Our music department includes four choruses, three concert bands, two jazz bands, one symphonic orchestra and two string orchestras as well as numerous chamber ensembles. We are supported by the Hudson Music Association, an organization of music parents who facilitate projects and fundraisers in support of the high school music program. The Chamber orchestra is the top ensemble of strings selected by audition and represents many of the most advanced instrumentalists in Northeast Ohio. They have earned Superior Ratings and critical acclaim in Ohio and Nationally. The HHCO won First Prize in the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria in 2006.
Roberto Iriarte, conductor, has been an Instrumental Music Educator at the Hudson City School District since 1996.
