Zhang has studied conducting at the Central Conservatory if Beijing under the renowned conductor Mr. Professor Xu Xin. After graduation, Mr. Zhang completed his postgraduate studies at the Conservatory of Naples and at the State Opera of Vienna under Mr. Max Cegic. After his return to China, Mr. Zhang led and conducting with various and important Chinese orchestras, for example China Symphony Orchestra, Central Opera Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic and other orchestras of provincial capitals. For the last twenty years, Mr. Zhang traveled around the world, conducting with a huge number of symphonies and operas. The media characterized him as a "conductor with speaking hands". He has also a passion for teaching, training and working with youth orchestras in China. Since a few years, Mr. Zhang is the chief conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in China and since five years he is also the chief conductor of the school brass orchestra of the affiliated high school to the University of Transportation in Beijing.
