St Peter’s College Jazz Ensemble

The St Peter’s Jazz Ensemble were formed specifically for participation in the St Peter’s and Wilderness School combined European Tour and the Bratislava 2019 International Youth Music Festival. Each member of this ensemble are involved in the Stage Band program at St Peter’s College and attend two Big band rehearsals, sectionals and 1 improvisation class with their improvisation tutor Mr Derek Pascoe weekly. These five boys participate in the most senior of our four big bands at St Peter’s College. Boys audition yearly to join this Jazz program which is graded and led by the St Peter’s College Director of Music Mr Philip Walsh. The St Peter’s College Jazz Ensemble are tutored by Mr Derek Pascoe who wish the boys well in their performance today as he will not be in attendance at the festival. These young men perform in many school concerts and functions and In 2018 they attended Australia’s most prestigious national jazz competition ‘Generations in Jazz’, and they were successful in winning division two , which means in 2019 they will be one of 10 big bands entering division one.
