The Ensemble of Old Music “Choral” was created in 1968 as an affiliation to the Department of Foreign Languages of the Ural State University in the city of Ekaterinburg, Russia. The Ensemble used to perform German sacred music composed in the XVI century, hence its name.Today the repertoire of “Choral” is very diverse. The Ensemble of Old Music traditionally prefers compositions written in the Western Europe in the XVI-XVII centuries and performs secular music as well as sacred pieces. Russian sacred music is also a part in the repertoire of the ensemble. This way the concert program has been diversified to a great extent. The Ensemble “Choral” eagerly takes part in various regional, all-Russian and international contests.
