St. Michael Church Gregorian schola was established in autumn 1994 as a nonprofessional group of singers who wanted to contribute with Gregorian chant to the worthy celebration of the liturgy. At the beginning there was a Gregorian chant course in Brno led by Prof. Karl Franz Prassl from Graz, in which a number of founding members personally participated. The Schola has gradually grown in number thanks to new comers - mostly acolytes in various Brno churches. The main focus of the ensemble´s activity lies in the service in the liturgy - the Schola regularly sings Latin services in the Brno Cathedral and in other churches also outside Brno diocese. Occasionally schola gives concerts. Its name was given after St. Michael‘s Church, where the Schola rehearses and where its leader Josef Gerbrich has been working as organist since 1979.
