The Cantilena Women’s Choir was established in 2006 and has been conducted by Lana Bernardes since that time. Cantilena, in Portuguese, means "lightweight song", from the Latin word for "song" or "melody". Whenever possible, during concerts the members of the choir wear a pearl necklace to represent the significance of the activities pursued: each member of the choir is represented by one of the pearls, with the strand linking them all being the music - the main purpose of so much hard work to achieve artistic quality. As well as being an extremely feminine accessory, it also illustrates the quality, refinement, finish and musical beauty that Academia Concerto pursues. Equal voices choirs are not very common in Brazil and, therefore, require constant research to seek out repertoire, both in Brazil and abroad, also making arrangements of pieces for mixed voices. Today the group's repertoire includes major classical composers such as Bach, Handel, Pergolesi, Lotti, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Faure and Villa-Lobos, in addition to a wide-ranging repertoire in relation to periods and styles: Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, Classical, Sacred, Spirituals, Opera, Pop, Folk, ‘a capella’ or with accompaniment. Some especial concerts already performed: Campinas Sacred Music Festival, “Ars Mvsica Sacra” Festival, Finamax Choir Festival, Sorocaba City Council Formal Women's Week, “Israel and the Paths of Peace” Festival, 1st Women’s Choirs Sao Paulo Festival, “Encanta Cruise” Choral Festival at Grand Teatro Mirasierra on the ship Grand Celebration and “Canta Inverno Vinhedo” Choral Festival. In September 2012 held a ten concerts joint tour in Brazil with Septemthillis Girl’s Choir from Slovakia by cities: Sorocaba, Sao Paulo, Curitiba, Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. In September 2013 this group took part in the chorus of the opera "Joanna de Flandres" by Brazilian composer Carlos Gomes with Campinas Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Victor Hugo Toro on stage with renowned opera soloists from Brazilian scene. Cantilena Women’s Choir occasionally performs with Camerata Vocal Male Choir, thus forming Academia Concerto's large mixed choir.
