St. Stephen’s College Choir, established in 1975, unites singers aged 12–17 under the current direction of its Music Director and Head of Music Ms. Vivian Suen. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, the choir attained the Championship Title in the vocal ensemble category at the 77th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, alongside 1st Runner-Up in the Treble Choir and Mixed Choir categories. It also achieved four Gold Awards at the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival and Joint School Music Competitions. Internationally, the choir earned a Gold Award at the 2024 Australian International Music Festival and three Gold Awards with 1st Place in the Contemporary Category at the 2018 Golden Gate International Choral Festival in San Francisco. Renowned for its versatility, the choir masterfully performs sacred hymns, classical works, folk traditions, and modern a cappella pop. The ensemble has collaborated with distinguished maestros, including its former Music Director Prof. Leon Tong, Maria Guinand, Judit Hartyányi, Dr. Zoltán Pád, Urša Lah, Prof. Ragnar Rasmussen, and Prof. Theodora Pavlovitch, enhancing its artistry through workshops and performances. Through school events, international tours, and community outreach, the choir inspires youth, preserves choral heritage, and represents St. Stephen’s College as a proud cultural ambassador through the power of music.
Vivian Suen is a distinguished Hong Kong-based choral conductor, soprano, and educator. She is Head of Music and Music Director at St Stephen’s College, known for her artistic excellence and dedication to youth music education. A scholarship graduate of Westminster Choir College (MM, with distinction) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (BA), she trained with Dr. James Jordan and worked with top orchestras and conductors, including Dudamel, Barenboim, and Nézet-Séguin. From 2016–2024, she led the Hong Kong Children’s Choir Concert Choir and its senior/intermediate groups on tours to Mainland China, Australia, Estonia, and Finland, and collaborated with major local orchestras and festivals. Suen has prepared choirs for films (Find Your Voice, Zero to Hero), TV (TVB), and international festivals like ReNew Vision. She regularly adjudicates, speaks at global choral events, coordinated Hong Kong’s first choral conducting competition, and served on the Asia-Pacific Choral Council (2019–2020).
