Competition rules

• One piece in the programme must be a cappella. Other pieces can be accompanied by the piano. Time limit: 15 minutes.
  

• The time limit for orchestras is 20 minutes. Repertoire can be the participant’s own choice.

• Each choir and orchestra will receive a diploma certifying the results. The jury may award other special prizes; for instance for the programme dramaturgy, voice production or original interpretation.

Participation conditions

The registration fee of a choir or an orchestra: 1 contest category makes 250 EUR, each next one contest category makes 200 EUR. The given registration fee is not paid back in the case of cancellation of the application. For participation in the festival without participation in the competition 200 EUR.

Individual workshops for ensembles can be arranged upon request on the first day of the festival.

Prolonging your stay

Those who would like to prolong their stay in the heart of Europe we highly recommend participating at the Musica Orbis Choir Festival from 27 June to 1 July in Prague and at the Summa Cum Laude Festival taking place in the nearby Vienna (only 60km) right after our festival from 5 to 10 July 2019!

Accommodation and board

Each choir or orchestra including the conductor, accompanying people, and bus drivers have to pay their travel expenses, expenses on accommodation and food. The choice of the package is obligatory. The prices are quoted per person.

The package price includes:

• 3x night and breakfast in the hotel

• guidance during the whole stay

• Bratislava sightseeing tour

• the opening concert of participating ensembles

• public concert performance of participating ensembles

• final diploma ceremony

• information material

3x night/breakfast in twin/double rooms in a **** hotel /additional fee of 101 EUR for a single room/

Package 2 Hotel ***

3x night/breakfast in twin/double and triple rooms in a *** hotel (additional fee of 60 EUR for a single room)

Package 1 Hotel **

3x night/breakfast in two-star hotels - 2 rooms with a shared bathroom, WC, 2-3 beds/ (additional fee for a single room)

The organizers reserve the right to arrange accommodation and catering of the participating choirs.

Application

Application deadline: 15th May 2019
After receiving the application form, each accepted participating group will be contacted by email and receive an official confirmation of participation.

The application shall be enclosed with:

• Completed electronic application form

• Competition program (name of the composition, composer full name, length of the compositions)

• Sound record of the choir not older than 3 years (mp3, link)

• Choir's and conductor's curricula (max 10 lines)

• A photo of the choir at conductor (print quality)

• A copy of scores for competition works (PDF)

• A copy of money order or bank transfer confirming payment for the festival fee

All the material is to be sent by email!

Diplomas

Each choir and orchestra will receive a diploma certifying the results. The jury may award other special prizes; for instance for programme dramaturgy, voice production or original interpretation.

The jury shall not issue any other evaluation of a choir‘s or orchestra´s performance in writing. Jury decisions are final, no appeals may be made.

According to the number of acquired points, the international jury will award:

Diploma for participation up to 59,99 points
Bronze certificate 60 - 74.9 points
Silver certificate 75 - 89.9 points
Gold certificate 90 - 100 points
Grand Prix min. 97 points

Choirs' & Orchestras' Performances during the festival:

• a) choirs: 5 mins sacred music programme a cappella or with piano accompaniment - opening concert, at least one 15 min. performance - a free programme

• b) orchestras: 20 minutes orchestral performance

The organizer reserves the right to use the video and sound recordings taken at the festival.

Important dates

• May 15, 2019 - Deadline for the first payment for room and board - 50%

• June 15, 2019 - Deadline for the final payment for room and board.
