Competition rules

The International festival Slovakia Folk is primarily oriented towards folk music. The main aim of the festival is to show with the songs or dance traditional culture of various nations. Festival is dedicated to children, youth, adult folklore groups and to choirs. On the festival may participate: 

• Vocal and vocal-instrumental ensembles with folklore repertoire

• Choirs

• Dance folklore ensembles with live music or recorded music

• Instrumental folklore ensembles, bands, and orchestras

• The minimum number of participants in the group is 6 performing persons (there is no maximum number limit or age limit)

• The performance time limit for choirs and folklore groups is 15 minutes; a piano is available.

• The time limit for dance ensembles is 15-18 minutes.

• The time limit for orchestras is 20 minutes.

• Repertoire can be participant’s own choice.

Participation conditions

The registration fee for competitive groups is 250 EUR for one contest category (200 EUR each next category). The registration fee for non-competitive participation is 200 EUR.

The registration fee is not paid back in the case of cancellation of the application.

Individual workshops for ensembles (upon request)

Technical equipment

The organizers shall provide the following equipment for the performances:

• Piano (participants will bring other types of instruments on their own)

• 6 microphones

• CD player

Festival performances

• 30 min. performance in Bratislava historical center

Organizers reserve the right to make and use audio and/or video recordings of the festival performances.

Accommodation and board

Each choir including the conductor, accompanying people, and bus drivers have to pay their travel expenses, expenses on accommodation and food. The choice of the package is obligatory. The prices are quoted per person.

The package price includes:

•  3x night and breakfast in a hotel

•  guidance during the whole stay

•  Bratislava sightseeing tour

•  the opening concert of participating ensembles

•  public concert performance of participating ensembles

•  final diploma ceremony

•  information material

3x night/breakfast in twin/double rooms in a **** hotel (additional fee of 101 EUR for a single room)

Package 2 Hotel ***

3x night/breakfast in twin/double and triple rooms in a *** hotel (additional fee of 60 EUR for a single room)

Package 1 Hotel **

3x night/breakfast in a ** hotel - (2 rooms with a shared bathroom, WC, 2-3 beds)

The organizers reserve the right to arrange accommodation and catering of the participating choirs.

Application

Application deadline: 15 April 2019

After receiving the application form, each accepted participating group will be contacted by email and receive an official confirmation of participation.

The application shall be enclosed with the following:

• Completed application form

• Program of competition performance (name, author and length of compositions/performed pieces)

• Program of non-competitive performances (name, author and length of compositions/performed pieces)

• The brief curriculum of the ensemble and of its leader/conductor

• Photo of the ensemble and of the leader/conductor

• Audio/video recording of the ensemble (mp3, link)

• A copy of money order or bank transfer confirming payment of the registration fee

All the materials are to be sent in electronic format!

Diplomas

Each participating ensemble will be awarded a diploma for participation and a festival souvenir prize by the International Folklore Festival Art Committee. An international jury comprising of distinguished professionals will judge the competition on the following criteria:

• choice of works and programme arrangement

• technique and interpretation

• artistic impression

With a maximum of 100 points, the medals will be awarded as follows:
Diploma for participation up to 59,99 points
Bronze certificate 60,00 - 74,99 points
Silver certificate 75,00 - 89,99 points
Gold certificate 90,00 - 100 points
Grand Prix according to the jury´s decision, min. 97 points

Important dates

• 15 April 2019 – application deadline

• 15 May 2019 – deadline for the 1st payment for accommodation and board (50% payment)

• 21 June 2019 – deadline for the final payment for accommodation and board
