The mixed choir Ad Libitum, based in Trondheim, Norway, was founded in 1987. As a community of ambitious amateur singers, we aim to connect with our audience through a diverse repertoire performed by heart. Among our international achievements is the "Sing'n'Joy Franz Schubert Choir Competition" in Vienna in 2014, where the choir won two 1st prizes in Category A1 Mixed Choir and Category S Sacred Choral Music. In 2016, Ad Libitum participated in "Canta al Mar" in Calella, Spain, earning a GOLD III Diploma and securing 3rd place in Category A1 Mixed Choir. In the autumn of 2018, we performed "Misa a Buenos Aires" with approximately 100 participants. This Latin mass, cast in tango musical form, was conducted by the Argentine composer Martin Palmeri himself. Steve Dobrogosz, an American composer, songwriter, and jazz pianist, exclusively wrote a wonderful piece for Ad Libitum called "TIME." We have performed this piece on various occasions, incorporating texts from William Shakespeare that explore the effects of aging. In July 2019, the choir participated in the 7th International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition and Festival, earning Gold diplomas in both the mixed choir and Sacred Choral Music categories. Later that year, we also participated in the Norwegian Choirs competition. The choir's repertoire ranges from larger works like "Misa a Buenos Aires" to pop tunes, folk tunes, church hymns, and more – all performed ad lib.
Since 2022, our conductor has been Svetlana Krstic Aksnes, an educated choir conductor from the University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, with a master’s degree in conducting and specialization in choir/choral conducting. Svetlana has a deep commitment and passion for choirs and singing. She has been involved in music, conducting, and singing since 1997. Notably, she is the founder of the chamber choir Vox Slavicum in Belgrade. Upon moving to Trondheim in 2015, she served as the conductor of two choirs and worked as a music teacher in her home country. In Trøndelag, she has directed the Hauka Men's Choir, the Hauka Dekorum (women's choir), and the Balkan Ensemble, while also working as a piano teacher.
