Children choir Schola Mariana was formed in 1994 with the establishment of the Elementary Church School Marianum. The first conductor of the choir was Mr István Stubendek, Principal of the school at that time. The choir performs at school and town events, during the church services and during different religious holidays. The choir’s repertoire ranges from sacral pieces to secular and traditional folk songs. They obtained excellent results in several Slovak and Hungarian national competitions and also at many festivals in Hungary. In the year 2013 the choir received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the President of Nitra self-governing region Mr. Milan Belica, for the successful representation of the Nitra region. After an extended break in 2012, the choirmaster Mgr. Yvette Orsovics, PhD returned to the choir.
Yvette Orsovics is an assistant and the Head of the Faculty of Pre-school and Elementary Education. She completed a master’s sudies of music education and conducting at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She completed her doctorate studies at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest in 2013. Since 1998 she has been leading the Lajos Bárdos mixed choir in Veľký Meder, children’s choirs of Elementary Church School of Marianum and in 2013 she founded a female choir based at the János Selye University.
