SCHOLA MINOR was founded at the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation (Kostol Zvestovania Pána) in Bratislava in 2013. Besides the classical Gregorian chant repertoire in accordance with Gregorian semiology, it also specialises in the interpretation of the chant of the Franciscan tradition and from the manuscripts of mediaeval Slovakia and the mediaeval Kingdom of Hungary (of which Slovakia was a part). Schola consists of the singers Hilda Gulyásová (solo), Tomáš Šelc (solo), Mária Páleníková, Júlia Urdová, and Sylvia Urdová (conductor – she studied Gregorian chant with Professor Cornelius Pouderoijen OSB in Vienna: Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst). Apart from singing during liturgy at the Franciscan church the schola has sung in several concerts and festivals in Slovakia, Hungary and Italy.
Sylvia Urdová graduated in organ and choral conducting in the department of church music at the State Conservatory in Bratislava and in musicology at the Comenius University in Bratislava, where she presented a dissertation on mediaeval music (in 2010). She also studied Gregorian chant with Professor Cornelius Pouderoijen OSB in Vienna (Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst). She is a member of the Viennese Gregorian chant ensemble Schola Resupina. She is the organist of the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation in Bratislava, where she is the choirmaster of the vocal-instrumental ensemble Franciscan schola Bratislava.
