The Girls‘ Choir DOLCE CANTO was established in 2006 as an educational and concert ensemble and it is made of pupils and students attending Jan Cikker Art School residing in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia. Diverse choir’s repertoire contains musical compositions of wide range of styles of European classical music and covers both sacred and secular works, from Renaissance church music to music of the present day. Specific part of the repertoire belongs to ballads, spiritual and gospel songs and folk song adaptations with original instrumental accompaniment. Dolce Canto Choir choristers have been involved in various music events, benefit concerts, they regularly perform at Christmas concerts. The choir took part in live performances in Italy, Croatia and in the Czech Republic. In 2015 Jan Nosko – the Mayor of Banska Bystrica awarded The Girls‘ Choir Dolce Canto a special Mayor‘s prize for outstanding interpretative accomplishments in the realm of choral singing and presentation of the town of Banska Bystrica. In 2016 Dolce Canto took part in an International Contest of Choral Singing ´Mundi Cantant´ at the Festival of Songs ´Svatky pisni´ Olomouc 2016 where the choir was awarded the Golden prize. Besides many musical activities the choir presented itself in the media by making music recordings for the Slovak Television and the Slovak Radio. The Girls‘ Choir is led by Conductor and Artistic Director Martin Kašša, piano accompaniment is performed by Peter Sochuľák.
Martin Kašša studied Church Music (organ, conducting, piano and singing) at J.L. Bella Conservatory in Banska Bystrica. After finishing his studies he continued by studying choral conducting at the Music Academy in Banska Bystrica. During his university studies he participated in an exchange program at the Felix Nowowiejski Music Academy in Bydgoszcz, Poland. He conducted and cooperated with the following choirs: Chamber choir Ars Vocalis (conductor), Academic choir Canzona Neosolium (assistant conductor), Cathedral choir Xaverius (conductor). Besides his work as a conductor he also worked in the choir and orchestra (organ, harpsichord) of the State Opera in Banska Bystrica. Currently, he is working at Jan Cikker Music School and J.L. Bella Music Academy in Banska Bystrica.
