KoroSu was founded by its conductor Erdem Nusret Karakaş in 2016 as an amateur polyphonic girls’ choir. The choir has a repertoire with a wide spectrum that includes folk, pop, jazz and musical arrangements as well as sacred, classical music and children’s songs. The chorists are mostly high school students, some with musical background. The choir hopes to represent Turkey on international choral platforms with success and honorable results.
Erdem Nusret Karakaş was born in 1982 in Istanbul, Turkey. He started studying singing at age 14 in his home country. Between 2000-2005 he studied singing at Benedetto Marcello State Conservatory of Venice with Stefano Gibellato, obtaining his degree with success. After obtaining his master in music teaching and doctorate in singing at State Conservatory of Istanbul University, he started teaching as Assistant Professor at the same institute. He gives vocal chamber music concerts and teaches singing besides his conducting activity. KoroSu is the third choir founded by Karakaş. He is the founder and permanent conductor of Nâzim Hikmet Academy Choir since 2011. He also founded and conducted Children’s Choir of State Conservatory of Istanbul University.
