Štývar‘s children choir was founded in 1961 in Třinec (Czechoslovakia, now the Czech Republic) and took name after its long-time conductor Václav Štývar. Since 1997 the choir has been conducted by Alena Kostková. Except for concerts in churches, concerts for elementary schools in Třinec and its surroundings, the choir also arranges concert trips within the Czech Republic and it also takes part in "exchange tours" with cooperative choirs and in international competitions and festivals (the most recent: 2013 - Cracovia cantat, Poland; 2014 - Canti veris Praga, Czech Republic; 2015 - Alta Pusteria, Italy). The repertoire consists especially of arrangements of folksongs, compositions by contemporary Czech composers; the special chapter are Václav Štývar‘s songs composed for this choir. The choir also has a repertoire of old music, sacred and Christmas music.
Alena Kostková is a viola player, music school teacher and the art director of the Třinec chamber orchestra. She also conducts the female chamber choir Camerata Třinec.
