The Mladost Choir, based in Brno, will celebrate the 70th anniversary this autumn. The choir was established in 1956 by a prominent figure of the Czech choral scene, PhDr. Jaroslav Dostalík, originally as a children’s choir. In the 1990s its activities were revived as a mixed choir under the artistic direction of its founder; however, since 2010 it has performed as an all-female ensemble. The Mladost Choir regularly organizes a number of thematic and charity concerts, thereby continuing to develop the rich tradition of choral singing in Brno.
In 2022 the choir was taken over by conductor David Šmíd, a cellist and a student of orchestral conducting at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU). This February he became the absolute winner of the conducting competition organized by the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra.
