The Female Alumnae Choir of Tallinn University of Technology was founded in 1983 by former singers of the Academic Female Choir of Tallinn University of Technology and conductor Silvia Mellik. Today, the ensemble consists of around 30 singers representing various professions, many of whom are graduates of Tallinn University of Technology. Since 2023, the choir has been led by chief conductor Indrek Vijard and conductor-choirmaster Kristin Pintson. Throughout more than forty years of activity, the choir has performed concerts across Europe and participated in numerous international choir festivals and competitions. Among its notable achievements are a Silver Diploma at the Tamperen Sävel Choir Festival in 1995, the title Female Choir of the Year in Estonia in 2006, and a Golden Diploma at the Istra Music Festival in Croatia in 2014. The choir also received a Certificate at the International Choir Festival in Cork, Ireland, in 2015, a Silver Diploma at Sing’n’Joy in Provo, USA, in 2016, and another Silver Diploma at the International Choir Festival in Kalamata, Greece, in 2017. In 2019, it was awarded a Golden Diploma and the title Winner of the Category at the International Choir Festival in Hội An, Vietnam. More recently, the choir participated in the Choralspace Festival Chorus in Berlin in 2022 and earned a Silver Diploma, Level X, at the Canta al Mar International Choir Festival in Calella/Barcelona, Spain, in 2023. The repertoire of the Female Alumnae Choir of Tallinn University of Technology includes Estonian and international classical works, as well as folk and contemporary music. Several renowned Estonian composers - among them Ester Mägi, Helen Tobias-Duesberg, Tiina Kiilaspea, Alo Ritsing, Aare Kruusimäe, Lembit Veevo, and Olev Sau - have dedicated their compositions to the choir.
Indrek Vijard graduated from Tallinn Music High School in 1983 and the Tallinn State Conservatory in 1990 with a focus on choral conducting. Since 1995, he has directed Nõmme Music School and conducted notable choirs, including the EMLS Boys' Choir Kalev, Tallinn University Male Choir, and Väinamere EÜE Mixed Choir. Vijard has received several honors, such as the Presidential Order of the White Star IV class in 2021, and has served as the chairman of the Estonian Men's Song Society since 2019. Kristin Pintson began her music studies at the Põlva Music School, specializing in piano. In 2025, she graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in choral conducting from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in professor Hirvo Surva’s class. She currently works with the chamber choir Õnneline, the mixed choir of Tallinn Tõnismäe State Upper Secondary School (where she also teaches music) and the Female Alumnae Choir of Tallinn University of Technology. With various choirs or orchestras, Kristin has participated in festivals in China, France, Portugal, South Korea and Turkey. In 2023, she was awarded the Gustav Ernesaks Study Scholarship.
