Doc. Mgr. et MgA. Jan Ocetek, Ph.D. he studied Music Education – Mathematics at the Faculty of Education of the MU (1996), Musicology – Aesthetics at the Faculty of Arts at the MU (1997) and Choir Conducting with doc. Lubomír Mátla at JAMU (2000). In 2017, he completed his doctoral studies at JAMU Brno – Interpretation and Theory of Interpretation by defending his dissertation on the topic "The Life and Work of Jan Novák". He has been working as a teacher at the Department of Composition, Conducting and Opera Direction at JAMU since 2014. He successfully completed his habilitation procedure at JAMU in March 2022 with a lecture on the topic Choirmaster – artist, pedagogue, psychologist…. In the years 1987–2016, he worked as a singer in BMS FOERSTER (since 1993 the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno), where he also worked as second choirmaster and assistant director from 2000. In 1993, he founded the Brno student choir VOX IUVENALIS, with which he achieved many successes at international competitions and festivals during a continuous thirty-year artistic activity. Since 2000, VOX IUVENALIS has become a representative body of the University of Technology in Brno. In 2016, Jan Ocetek initiated the creation of the Practice Choir at JAMU as a practical teaching option for choral students. Since 2017, he has been the choirmaster of the Kantiléna Mixed Choir, in 2018 he became the choirmaster of the Masaryk University Choir. In 1994, he founded GYMNASIA CANTANT, a nationally rated show of high school choirs, where he works as artistic director. He is a member of domestic and foreign professional juries of choral competitions, the preparatory committee of FSU Jihlava, a member of the ARTAMA Prague Professional Council for choral singing and the foreign commission at the MKČR.
