Since its founding in 1958 by Jiřina and Milan Uherek, Severáček has become a large "choir family" with around 230 children aged 4 to 18 singing in four preparatory sections and a concert choir. Over its sixty-year history, Severáček has achieved remarkable success, winning numerous competitions both domestically and internationally, including four times in Spain, in Estonia, Greece, Belgium, France, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, and more than 35 first prizes overall. Recent accolades include first prizes at the Slovakia Cantat competition in 2019 and two Cum Laude awards at an international choir competition in Neerpelt, Belgium, in 2022. The choir has received enthusiastic applause across three continents and participates in prestigious festivals, including the Prague Spring. Severáček regularly records for radio and television and has released several albums. Their repertoire spans all musical styles, featuring folk song arrangements mostly in their original languages. Many former members have become professional musicians and soloists in leading opera houses in Europe.
The conductor and artistic leader of Severáček is Silvie Langrová, a graduate of the Pardubice Conservatory and the University of Hradec Králové. She is invited to serve on domestic and international competition juries (including Llangollen and Cantonigros) and organizes choir festivals and seminars. For her work in conducting, she received the František Lýsek Award from the Union of Czech Choirs in 2016.
