The mixed choir "Akademski pevski zbor Karel Destovnik – Kajuh" is composed of former students of the 1st Gymnasium in Celje, Slovenia. The choir began its work in January 2022. They had their first solo concert in October 2022, and were also part of other events and projects in various parts of Slovenia, continuing into the year 2023. In Slovenia, they were placed at the highest competitive level in both 2022 and 2023. Soon after, the singers aimed to start competing internationally, dedicating the year 2023 to studying more complex compositions and searching for international competitions. The competition in Bratislava will be their first.
Matevž Pušnik
Conductor / Leader
Matevž Pušnik (born 1994) comes from a small village near Planina pri Sevnici. He began his music education at the Music School Skladateljev Ipavcev Šentjur, continued his education at the 1st Gymnasium in Celje and the Music School. After that, he enrolled at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. He upgraded his knowledge of solo singing with Prof. Edita Garčević Koželj. Currently, he is the conductor of several choirs and vocal groups. He has participated in several competitions with the choirs and received various awards. He also took part in a National competition for choral conductors in 2022. In the national choir competition “Naša pesem 2022,” he was recognized as a young promising conductor. He regularly enhances his knowledge with renowned conductors such as Sebastjan Vrhovnik, Gary Graden, Petra Grassi, Urša Lah, Ragnar Rasmussen, Stojan Kuret, and others.
