The orchestra was founded in 1958 in Novi Sad. In 2017 it was named after Isidor Bajic, composer, conductor and founder of the first music school in Novi Sad (1909). The orchestra numbers 60 instrumentalists - pupils and students (ex-pupils of the school) and performs all music styles, from baroque concertos, oratorios and operas, classical and romantic overtures and symphonies, to contemporary music, including arrangements of music from the movies. Special attention is turned towards national music heritage, inspired by the richness of Balkan folklore. The ensemble often performs oratorio music with the school choir. It performed the semi-staged English baroque opera "Dido and Aeneas" by H. Purcell in 2014 and participated in the professional performance of the opera “Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh” by N. Rimsky Korsakov in 2018. The ensemble won many national prizes, but its most important achievement is the First Prize – Summa Cum Laude at the International Competition of Youth Orchestras in Neerpelt, Belgium in 2017. Since 2013 the conductor is Tamara Adamov Petijević.
