Apparently there has always been a choir in the Piarist School, Pest since its foundation (1717), because being a church school, it must have had a schola or chorus for the liturgical services. Although (sometimes rare) records only exist from the past 38 years, the choir must have had an acceptable standard of singing before this time, too, because we know that Zoltán Kodály dedicated two choral pieces to the choir in 1956, which was premiered and often sung by the boys. In the past 38 years four of his predecessors (Maklári Lajos SchP, Borián Tibor SchP, Kenessey László, Király Miklós) and Béla Melegh conducted the choir at several concerts and local competitions. The choir’s latest competition result was winning its category (Young Male Choir) at the Zoltán Kodály Choir Competition in Budapest in 2018. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd6wKBa96LA The choir serves mainly at liturgical services, but sometimes gives concerts and also takes part in competitions and festivals.
