The Sofienberg Choir is a mixed choir residing in The Sofienberg Church in central Oslo. The choir was founded in 1972. Today it consists of about 30 singers in the age range of 25 to 60. The Sofienberg Choir has a large repertoire that ranges from church music, folk song, jazz to larger classic works. Among the major works performed over the last few years are Fauré: Requiem, Kodaly: Missa Brevis, Mendelssohn: Paulus and Pärt: Berlinermesse. The Choir was the premier performer of the new work “De tolv merkesteinene” by Norwegian composer and author Bergljot Ellingsrud. Tours or visits to festivals are regular, lately to countries like Poland, Ireland and Sweden as well as Norway.
Alvilde Riiser (1989) finished her BA in Music Education at the University of Agder in 2012 and went on to attain a BA in Choral Conducting from the Norwegian Academy of Music, graduating in 2015. She is currently studying an MA in Choral Conducting at the same institution with Prof. Grete Pedersen as her teacher. Alvilde conducts a female choir in Oslo and has assisted the Precentor over the last three years in Oslo Cathedral conducting several services. Alvilde has been the conductor of Sofienbergkoret since January 2018.
