Cantilena is a Female Chamber Choir from Gumpoldskirchen, Austria. It was founded in 2004. The repertoire includes sacred music, works of classical and modern composers. Since 2018 Yulia Mikkonen is the conductor of the choir.
Yulia Mikkonen - choral conductor, singer (mezzo-soprano), artistic director (ensemble Bach-Consort Moscow). Moscow-born (1975), and currently based in Vienna, Yulia studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory at diploma and postgraduate levels with famous Russian choral conductor Prof. I. Agafonnikov, specialising in choral conducting. In 1998-2015 Yulia has taught choral conducting, student' choir, vocal ensemble and musical arrangement at Gnessin’s Music Academy in Moscow. In 2007 she founded the early music ensemble Bach-consort (Moscow). In 2009-10 she completed her studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Anthony Rooley and Evelyn Tubb as a consort singer, specialising in Renaissance vocal polyphony, and has since been involved in several concert and recording projects with various European ensembles such as Ars Moriendi, Insula Magica, The Theater of the Ears and Opfermusik. Yulia is a regular member of the international Renaissance vocal ensemble Basiliensis (founded 2011). As a soloist she performs a very wide range of the Renaissance and barock repertoire from Landini to Handel. Among the last works - the solo-project "Mad Songs" , focused on English theater music of 17th century. Masterclasses: Ute von Garczynski, Kai Wessel, Deborah York, Jennifer Smith, Maurice van Lieshout. In the concert season 2018/19 Yulia is leading a concert seria 'The Art of Madrigal" at her Alma Mater, Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Since 2018 Yulia works for the "Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen Kinderchor" in Lower Austria.
