Tartu Girls' Choir Kurekell was founded on Nov 1, 1982 by Lennart Jõela. From 2011 is Ms Vilve Maide the head conductor of the choir. The music teacher is Ms Imbi Goldman andvoice trainer Ms Tiia Puhvel. Singers of Kurekell are at ages 13-20, selected through competition from all schools of Tartu (Estonia). The choir's repertoire includes songs from Estonian composers, classical and contemporary choir music. In addition to numerous concerts in Estonia, Kurekell has had concert tours in Russia, Ukraine, Finland, Germany, Belgium and Slovenia. The choir has perfomed succesfully in international festivals and competitions of choral music: - 1989, 1st prize in Olomouci, Czech Republic - 1996, 1st prize in Neerpelt, Belgium - 1997, 1st prize in Celje, Slovenia - 2005, national song competition for female choirs, 2nd prize, the best male conductor prize to Lennart Jõela and the best performer of compulsory song - 2008, national song competition for female choirs, 2nd prize among girls' choirs and the best conductor prize to Ave-Maria Sild - 2008, International Choir Olympics in Graz, Austria, 2 gold medals (for religious music and for childrens' choirs) - 2012, E. Mägi 90th anniversary competition for female and girls' choirs - 2015, Cantata en Primavera Malaga 1 place in youth choir category, 2nd place in folk category. -2015, Estonian Female Singining Society national competition, 1st place. -2016, 13th International Choir Competition and Festival Bad Ischl, 2nd place in youth choir category, 3nd place in folk category -2017, 3th International Choir Festival and Competition of Lithuanian Music Patriarch Jouzas Naujalis, 1st prize -2018, 5th Concorso Corale Internazionale Riva del Garda, 2nd place in youth choir category
