Founded in 1997 under the name Pro Cantu, the Cape Town Youth Choir aims to provide an opportunity for young South Africans to sing in a choir of the highest international standards while delivering a moving musical experience to its audiences. The premier of the Western Cape, Ms Helen Zille is the patron of the Cape Town Youth Choir. Since its start as Pro Cantu, the Cape Town Youth Choir has toured extensively. Our tours have spanned Europe, China, Malaysia, and the United States and we have had the pleasure of singing in some of the most famous venues in the world including: Carnegie Hall (New York, 2008), Salisbury Cathedral (Salisbury, 2008 and 2011), St Paul's Cathedral (London, 2008), and Mozart’s home venue, the Grosse Aula (Salzburg, 2011). We have also proudly represented South Africa at several international choral competitions with excellent results including winning a gold medals at the World Choir Games (2006, 2008) and at the 2nd Grand Prix of Choral Music (2011). In addition we have presented the World Premiere of the Rachmaninoff Vespers in Afrikaans and the South African premiere of Arvo Pärt’s St John Passion. The Cape Town Youth Choir regularly appears on South African radio and television. Our previous cd’s can be found on iTunes under the name “Pro Cantu Youth Choir”.
