In the late 1970’s the Beveren wind orchestra “Harmonie Kunst & Vreugd” chose to start working with young musicians and founded a separate orchestra for students and young musicians, the “jeugdharmonie”. In the beginning the “jeugdharmonie” mainly played the pre-program for the concerts of the “adult” orchestra, however since some years they also play their own concerts. At this moment the orchestra is composed by about 35 young musicians, all studying or having studied at the local music academy in Beveren, Belgium. Apart from making music together, the orchestra pays great attention to organizing side activities to strengthen friendship in the group. The yearly highlight of the group is the weekend-stay, where making music together is alternated with lots of games and fun. In 2018 the young musicians are looking forward to their first foreign trip as an orchestra, participating in the International Youth Music Festival in Bratislava.
Sven Ysewyn started his musical career as a trumpet player at the age of 8 at the Academy of Lokeren. He continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and the “Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés”(FR) and attended a lot of masterclasses. Sven is one of the founders and musicians from O’Brass, a young Belgian brass ensemble. As a freelance trumpet player, he plays among others in the orchestra of La Monnaie, the national opera house, CASCO Phil and Frascati Symphonic. Besides his career as a trumpet player, Sven started conducting. Since 2014, he is the conductor of the “Koninklijke Harmonie Kunst Adelt Zele-Heikant”. Since 2012, he conducts “Jeugdharmonie Kunst & Vreugd Beveren-Waas”.
