The Kekava Youth Orchestra (KYO) until 2011 known as the Riga District Youth Orchestra was founded in 2002 and since then has become one of the leading and internationally most succesful youth symphony orchestras in Latvia. This is proven by both local and international success - orchestra has won the Symphony orchestra category in competitions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Belgium. Our most recent success is the victory won in 2023 in the Symphony orchestra category at the Young Prague competition in the Czech Republic. The orchestra stands out among other Latvian youth orchestras in that the rehearsals take place on Sundays and that all the orchestra members take part in it voluntarily, because they want to play in this group and accept brave challenges that are set. In order to better prepare for international festivals and maintain a high artistic level, KYO holds annual summer camps, which are usually a week long and combine the joy of making music with exciting leisure activities in picturesque Latvian towns.
