The history of Balys Dvarionas Music School choir “Viva Voce” dates back to the year of 1970. Since the very beginning the choir’s biography has been counting numerous concerts held in Vilnius and other cities and towns of Lithuania, participation in all National and World Lithuanian Song Festivals. A new choir’s era started in 1998 when famous Lithuanian choir leaders and conductors Virginija Katinienė and Raimondas Katinas undertook the choir’s supervision. The choir has developed its wide repertoire comprising over 300 music pieces by the composers of various countries, diverse in genre and style, ranging from the archaic music to the contemporary one, including jazz and rock compositions. At present the choir comprises 150 choristers ranging from 11 to 18 years old.
Raimondas Katinas (b.1953) is a choir conductor, composer, arranger and educator. In the period of 1979-1985 he worked as a choirmaster at the National Opera theatre. It has to be emphasized that major part of the choir’s repertoire comprises music pieces of various styles arranged by Raimondas Katinas, also, his own compositions. Virginija Katinienė (b.1958) is a famous choir conductor and music educator in Lithuania. In 1980 she graduated from Klaipeda Music Academy. Having started her creative career V.Katinienė directed many choirs and ensembles, supervised the majority of regional music festivals.
