Established in 2014, the Wah Yan Junior Boys’ Choir, currently consisting of about 40 members from Forms 1 to 3, is formed from the most outstanding choral students of both Wah Yan Colleges – situated in Hong Kong island and Kowloon respectively. The choir aims to let members learn from every single performance whilst increasing their vocal abilities through encouraging and instilling the members‘ passion for music, and through trying different repertoire, from sacred to large-scale classical choral music, through different languages such as Latin, French, Hungarian and Russian. The choir has participated in many performances, such as exchange concerts with Wells Cathedral College from England, and collaborating with the Irish Consulate in Hong Kong as well as working with local Cantopop stars such as Alan Tam and George Lam and singing groups from abroad such as the Princeton Tigerlilies. The Wah Yan Junior Boys’ Choir competed in the 10th Cantemus International Choral Festival in Hungary where it was awarded the Gold Diploma, the highest level of the competition. In 2015, the choir competed in the World Youth and Children’s Choir Festival in Hong Kong and came first in the Category A2 Children’s Choir, SA voices (Aged 16 or under). Members join this Junior Choir because they enjoy singing together. The members are glad and excited that they can experience different music cultures of different countries and can make friends of many lands through this precious opportunity. Last but not least, the members consider the love of music as the main force that bonds the Choir becoming a big family with joy and love.
