Mixed choir KOS is a part of College and Secondary Teacher’s Training School in Litomyšl. Its work is built on more than fifty years of choir tradition at the school. As every school choir it changes its members every year. The choir has been successfully presenting itself at festivals and choral competitions both at home and abroad where it traditionally occupies the best places. The choir has performed throughout Europe, 2008 in Canada, 2016 in USA. During the 15-year-existence of mixed singing, the choir has released seven CDs. A double album called Gufo where chamber choir KOKOS is presented too, contains also premieres of contemporary authors compositions (Luboš Hána, Jiří Teml, Jan Vičar). On their last CD called Mosaic of Memories you can find a world premiere of Missa Festiva by a present day American composer John Leavitt. Members of the choir participate in various vocal-instrumental projects: children opera Budulínek (Robert Mimra), musical Jesus Christ Superstar (Andrew Lloyd Webber), rock oratorio Eversmiling liberty (Jens Johansen and Erling Kullberg), Celebration Jazz Mass (Karel Růžička), baroque opera Pygmalion (Jean Philippe Rameau) and many other piece. The artistic director of the choir is Milan Motl, Marie Jovbaková plays the piano.
Milan Motl (*1977) graduated from the Faculty of Education, University of Hradec Králové in the fields of music and history. Later, he also studied solo singing at the music department of the same university. He studied choir conducting at the university in Choir conducting lessons. Now he is attending private lessons in conducting and is a postgraduate student at Ostrava University in Ostrava. He gained his first choir experience by leading the preparatory department of the Bonifantes Boys Choir of Pardubice (1999 - 2003). Later he worked as their second concert choir choirmaster. Since 2002 he has been the artistic director of the KOS Mixed Choir and KOKOS Chamber Choir of the College and Secondary Teachers’ Training School in Litomyšl. During his conducting the choir KOS gained a lot of gold medals in Czech as well as foreign contests and festivals. Milan Motl is a member of national organizations focusing on choir singing, he also participates in NIPOS-ARTAMA Expert Council Prague for youth choirs. He is an active singer and he works as a voice consultant. Very often he is invited to participate in the jury of solo and choral singing and as a lecturer in choral workshops and music projects at home as well as abroad.
