Riga Stradins University mixed choir “Riga” was established in 1951. Now there are almost 60 singers in the choir and most of them are students of Riga Stradins University. During its long existence the choir has performed in more than 25 countries (Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, Finland, Poland, Greece and other) and gained numerous prizes in local and international choral contests. The most recent ones are the following: in 2012 the choir participated in the 10th International Choir Competition “Venezia in Musica” and was a winner of two categories – mixed choir and folk music. In spring of 2014 choir become the winner of the folklore category and received a Golden Diploma in the category of mixed choirs in the 15th International Choir Competition & Festival Bad Ischl, Austria. And to finish the list, in spring 2015 choir returned from the International Wroclaw Choir Festival “Vratislavia Sacra” in Poland with Grand Prix and several other prizes. At the moment the choir is being led by conductor Zane Zilberte (since 2006), the choir masters are Roberts Hansons and Uģis Meņģelis.
Conductor Zane Zilberte studied choir con¬ducting at the Jāzeps Mediņš music second-ary school and went on to graduate from the Jānis Lindenbergs choir conducting class at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. She has gained invaluable experience with the Riga chamber choir Ave Sol led by Imants Kokars. Since completing her studies, Zane Zilberte is a teacher at the Riga Music School No.3 where she herself once acquired the fundamentals of music. She was the choirmaster of the women’s choir Ausma, a member of the Indianapolis Symphony choir. She formed and led the Indianapolis Lat¬vian male voice ensemble. She currently sings in the State Choir Latvija and has been a conductor of the choir Rīga since 2006.
