Ipavska Chamber Choir is a group of singers that continue the long tradition of choral singing in the Vipava valley. Starting as a modest vocal group in 1998, it has grown into a choir with over twenty singers coming from all parts of the valley. The repertoire of the choir includes various musical works, ranging from Slovene folk music to sacred music including demanding contemporary choir pieces composed by Slovene and foreign composers alike. Ipavska has grown into a choir winning the highest competition awards. On the international level, the choir represented Slovenia at many prestigious international choral competitions such as Tolosa Grand Prix, Tours Grand Prix, Seghizzi Grand Prix, Arezzo Grand Prix, and many others. On the national level, the choir competed with success at the regional competition in Postojna and at the national competition Naša pesem in Maribor.
Michele Josia (1974) was born in Rome, Italy. He started his music education in high school of arts, and graduated from Conservatorium »Ottorino Respighi« in composition, and earned a Masters degree in choral conducting at Conservatorium »Licino Refice« in 2004. As one of emerging composers, Michele Josia's work encompasses film soundtracks, choral and orchestral works and, far more than merely a composer, he's also a well known choir conductor. With his ensembles, he won several first prices and special awards in national and international choral competitions as well as getting official awards by government in Slovenia. With a background experience gained in more than 12 years, Josia has assets of more than 140 concerts in Europe, including the direction and performances of his compositions. A polyhedric and multi talented musician, Josia’s combines his academic knowledge of orchestration, composition, human voice and choirs, with the today’s new technology of digital instruments.
