The “Bartók Choir of Miskolc” was established in 1975 as oratorio choir. At present, the choir has double profile, which has been developed during the 1970s: it performs both oratorios and a capella works, from Renaissance up to the contemporary music. The chorus plays also a significant role in the musical life of the city of Miskolc. It performs 4-5 oratorios per year not also in the concerts of the Chamber Choir Festival of Miskolc and the concert-series of the University of Miskolc. Several contemporary works’ premieres or Hungarian premieres were introduced in these concerts. The “In Aeternum Bartók Choir” was founded in September 2013 by the previous and present members of the above mentioned “Bartók Choir of Miskolc”. The new choir has already performed several successful concerts as a chamber choir in Miskolc and its surroundings. The choir competition of Bratislava is the first international competition, where the choir takes part. The choir is conducted by Zoltán Sándor.
Zoltán Sándor graduated first as piano teacher in Miskolc, then as conductor at the Musical Academy Budapest, took part – among others – in the master class of Eric Ericson. He received his postgraduate degree (DLA) in 2004. Presently he teaches at the Musical Faculty of the University of Miskolc. Besides “Bartók Choir of Miskolc” he also conducts a female choir of the musical faculty, the Teacher's Choir of Szerencs and the Hassler Vocal Ensemble. His choirs have been awarded many prizes at significant choral competitions not only in Hungary, but abroad, among others in Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. Moreover, he regularly takes part in the work of the juries of international music competitions.
