Renwen Philharmonic Choir was founded in 1999, and has become a choral system now, including chorus, chamber choir, youth choir, children choir and festival chorus. Among them, the Renwen Philharmonic Children Choir (RPCC) was formally established in 2013 based on the Hubei Radio & Broadcast Children Choir beforehand. Now Dr. Zhou Kai, the artistic director, and Mr. Wu Hao, the permanent conductor as well as the educational group of Mr. Huang Longlong, Ms. Li Mengdi, Ms. Xu Li, Ms. Li Mengru, Ms. Li Zhuo and 80 singers form the whole team of RPCC. In July 2013, RPCC won gold medal in the 4th Hong Kong International Youth Choir Festival. In December 2013, RPCC was invited to take part in the Hubei Commemoration Concert for the 100th Anniversary of China’s Choral Development. In 2014, RPCC held the first special children choir concert in Hubei Province. And this year, RPCC is going to participate in the International Youth Music Festival, Bratislava 2015 and Europa Cantat XIX Hungary, Pecs 2015.
Dr. Zhou Kai, the lecturer of the Choral Conducting Department of Music School, Jianghan University, the Vice Chairman of Chinese Universities Chorus Committee, the executive director of Hubei Province Chorus Association, member of the Arts Council of China International Choral Festival, and one of the distinguished experts of Wuhan Institute of Educational Sciences, and the artistic director of the Renwen Philharmonic Choir. As a choir concert director, Dr. Zhou also works in Wuhan Philharmonic, Hubei Opera and Dance Theatre. Dr. Zhou won the Second Prize in the 2nd National Choral Conducting Competition (China 2011), the Excellent Conductor Award in the 11th China International Choral Festival. In recent years, the choirs under the direction of Dr. Zhou won numbers of golden prizes in various choir competitions in China and abroad. In March 2012, as the only student selected from Mainland China and enrolled in the master class of Taipei Bach Festival 2012, Dr. Zhou was taught by the maestro Helmuth Rilling for St. Matthew Passion and served as a concert conductor in the lecture series. In July 2013, with the invitation of the China International Choral Festival, Dr. Zhou was the teaching expert at the 8th Voice of Harmony Advanced Choral Conducting Workshop.
