Chamber choir “Tonika” was founded in 1966. The choir's repertoire includes both sacred and mundane music varied from Renaissance till nowadays as well as Latvian and foreign music. The choir concert life is active in Latvia and abroad. "Tonika" regularly participates in concerts, festivals and competitions in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, France and Italy. Activities and the most recent awards won by the choir are following: • Gold diploma, special prize, Grand Prix participant and I place in women chamber choir category with compulsary peace in choir competiton „Venezia in Musica” in Italy, Venice (2013). Also Sertificate to participate in 8th World choir games Champion comeptition in Riga. • Participant of the Grand prix of XXV Latvian Song and XV Dance celebration choir competiton „Koru kari” („Choir wars”) -12th place in Latvia (2013) • Christmas concerts in churches with well known Latvian singers – Jānis Holšteins-Upmanis (2013) and Daumants Kalniņš (2014) • Highest results in Riga choirs competition for XI Latvian Youth Song and dance festival (2014) • Gold diploma and 6th place in world in 8th World choir games in women chamber choir Champions competition. (Riga, 2014) Attractive concerts and musical performances are regularly staged apart from academic music concerts. Traditions - summer camps, dancing, common events and celebrations play an important role in "Tonika’s" daily life. Feelings of home, simplicity, kindness and being open to new and crazy ideas are the things that best characterize today’s “Tonika”.
