The Szczecin Boy’s Choir „Slowiki” was established in 1960 under the initiative of Professor Jan Szyrocki who conducted the choir for the first 15 years. The group very soon achieved an international level and it has become the best cultural ambassador of Szczecin. The “Slowiki” choir has performed in majority of European countries, as well as in countries of Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania. The choir has won numerous prestigious international competitions and festivals. The group perform classical and contemporary. The choir is still in the good shape being awarded in a lot of competitions. In October 2012 the group performed in Rimini and Venice (Italy). In April 2013 they obtained 2nd place in International Wroclaw Choir Festiwal „Vratislavia Sacra”. In May 2013 choir took part at the International Boy Choir Festival in Konakovo (Russia), performed also in Moscov and Vilnius (Lithuania). In 2014 Choir took part of Festival Internacional de Musica de Cantonigros and took 4th place in the Children’s Choirs category.
Grzegorz Handke, one of the first members of “Slowiki” since the foundation of the group, has been the director and conductor of the Szczecin Boys´ Choir “Slowiki” since 1st September 2011. Already at the age of 18 he become a second conductor of the Szczecin “Slowiki”. He has graduated from the Music Academy in Poznan, the class of Professor Jan Szyrocki. He was a tutor and conductor of the men’s choir at Higher Theological Seminary in Szczecin. For 32 years he has been the second conductor of the choir of the Pomeranian Medical University. For 14 years he has been running a mixed choir “Res Musica”. Additionaly, he is a founder and was a conductor in years 2007 - 2013 of Men’s Choir “Slowiki 60” named after Jan Szyrocki.
