The vocal ensemble VOCES GREGORIANAE CASSOVIENSES deals exclusively with Gregorian chant repertoire and was founded in 2011. Its founder and art director is Ján Veľbacký, Gregorian chant theory and interpretation professional. The goal of the schola´s foundation was preserving the cultural and musical heritage of liturgical music that used to have dominant position over several centuries. Secondly, it is the presentation of the Medieval sacred music tradition that is slowly disappearing from the present people´s awareness. The ensemble is made of nine singers who base their interpretation of this genre of monodic music on the semiological and paleographic studies. The choir´s activities focus mainly on concerts aimed to promote the beauty and richness of Gregorian chant. In a relatively short time of its existence, the choir has participated in several significant events home and abroad, e.g. in the International festival of Gregorian chant in Watou, Belgium.
Ján Veľbacký – after finishing his theological studies at Lateran University in Rome, he continued in studying music. He achieved complete music education focused on sacred music at the Papal Institute of Sacred Music in Rome, from which he graduated with a doctor´s degree in Gregorian chant. After studies he began to teach at the State Conservatory in Košice and at the Catholic University. He also lectures at semiologic and interpretational seminars of Gregorian chant abroad. In addition to his pedagogical and academic activities he is actively involved in various concerts home and abroad (Italy, Belgium, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland.)
