Octet Jurij Dalmatin is the oldest vocal group in Boštanj, a small town in eastern Slovenia, and is also one of the oldest male groups in Slovenia overall, having been founded in 1964. This year is their 50th anniversary. Although none of the current octet singers have yet to reach that age. The average age of the members of the octet is 32, 5 years. Their repertoire consists of renaissance, romantic, all the way to modern and folk music. They have received numerous prizes for singing at various competitions and concerts at home and foreign venues. At the regional competition of choirs and vocal groups in 2013, they received the gold plaque and a special prize for the best performed folk song or an arrangement of a folk song. Their conductor, Tine Bec, also received the prize for the most perspective young conductor (at 20 years old). The octet was considered for the national competition Naša pesem by a jury of renowned Slovenian choral conductors. In 2014 at a regional festival of choirs and vocal groups, they received a golden cup for the best performance according to the spectators. They were yet again considered by the jury for the national competition, which is to be held in 2016.
Tine Bec is currently a student of composition and music theory at the Ljubljana Academy of Music. At the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet, he received his high school education, graduating with honors in music theory and piano. He started his choir career as a singer in numerous renowned Slovenian choirs. Now he is a conductor in dwo vocal groups and a mixed choir. He is an assistant to very well-known Slovenian composer and conductor Ambrož Čopi, who is also his choral conducting tutor.
