The University of California, Irvine choirs have taken twenty-five international concert tours and have had prize winning performances at the World Choir Games (2006, 2010), International Musical Eisteddfod, Llangollen, Wales (1979, 1986, 1992, 1997, 2008), Béla Bartók International Choral Competition, Debrecen, Hungary (1988, 1994, 2000) and the Koorfest, den Haag, Holland (1979). Concert appearances have been made in the cathedrals of York, Sterling, Westminster, Coventry, Canterbury, Ely, Burgos, Liverpool and Boston. Formal concerts presentations include the cities of Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Taipei, Budapest, Warsaw, Prague, and Vienna. They also accepted invitations to perform at international festivals in Spain (2000, 2001), South Korea (2003, 2006) and Mexicao (2002, 2006, 2014). The Chamber Singers are credited in the IMAX production "To the Limit". Six choirs currently form the nucleus of the Choral Organizations at Irvine and include singers from most major academic disciplines in the university.
Michael Ushino received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the university of California, Irvine in 2009. He performed as a singer and choralist in England, Hungary, Korea, China, Wales, Spain, Mexico and throughout the United States. He has an avid interest in the style and development of the keyboard instruments and has studied organ and voice. Michael has eclectic tastes in music and is adept in many genres including jazz, folk, gospel, spiritual and classical styles. He is trained in martial arts and has received a first degree black belt in shotokan karate. He received his graduate degree in Choral Conducting from the California State University, Long Beach in 2013. Michael is the founder/director of the University of California, Irvine chamber choir, Ushinotes and conducts two choirs at the acclaimed choral program at Tesoro High School in Mission Viejo, California.Back to the list of ensembles
