Loreto Secondary School Youth Choir

Loreto Secondary School Youth choir have been singing together for the past 3 years. The choir is voluntary and all are welcome.They have been involved in Kilkenny Music Festival over the last few years and have achieved success in the Festival,winning the Eddie Grey Memorial Cup for Sacred music earlier this year. They have played a major role in the celebration of 150 years of the Loreto Order in Kilkenny with a gala concert on October 3rd 2018.Singing for charity is also part of the choir’s activities and they will be involved in upcoming events for Christmas.Singing is a great joy for the members of this choir.

Jacinta Cantwell

Conductor / Leader

Born and raised in Kilkenny, Jacinta has long served as an integral part of the music in Kilkenny. After graduating with a BMUS H Dip degree from UCC Jacinta returned to Kilkenny and took up the music teacher position in Loreto Secondary school Kilkenny. For over 30 years Jacinta has not only taught music but has been the Choral and Orchestral director. The orchestra and choirs are multi award winning with regular success at Feis Ceoil, Kilkenny music festival and were recent prize winners, awarded with the silver and gold award at the Christmas and Advent choral festival in Bratislava. Jacinta has acted as musical director for Kilkenny Musical society, directing many musicals including Les Miserables. She has also conducted the Loreto/CBS joint choir and the Loreto/St Kieran's choir. She continues to promote involvement in music. All are welcome in the choirs and orchestra, no audition required just enthusiasm and a good team spirit!!
