Gimnazija Ptuj Orchestra The Orchestra of »Gimnazija Ptuj« Grammar School from Ptuj, Slovenia, was formed in 2018, initially as a chamber orchestra of 14 members. It was a group of gifted and enthusiastic young musicians who wished to play together and perform at various school events. Since then, the number of members has been growing, so today it consists of 36 instrumentalists and has become a concert orchestra which performs adapted arrangements for symphonic and woodwind bands, ranging from classical and film music to popular and traditional Slovenian folk music. In June this year the orchestra appeared on stage of the International Arsana Festival in Ptuj, together with vocal and instrumental soloists and the Girls’ choir of Gimnazija Ptuj, which was a great opportunity and an enormous pleasure for the young, devoted and talented musicians.
Romana Zelenjak graduated in English and German from the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana and studied music (piano and classical singing) at the music school in Ptuj and the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Ljubljana and Maribor. She has been a professor of English at Gimnazija Ptuj Grammar School since 2000 and has also participated in a number of musical projects at the school. She was a member of a renowned chamber choir Glasis from Markovci (2018 – 2023) and is still a member of a woodwind band from Dornava, as a vocal soloist and percussionist. She has managed to collect students at Gimnazija Ptuj who have studied a variety of musical instruments at music schools in Ptuj, and unite them in an ensemble which has grown into a concert orchestra, performing at the celebrations and events at school and in the municipality of Ptuj. She has been the orchestra conductor since 2018.
