The children choir of the Ferenc Erkel Primary School has been established in 1983. Through its history the choir received several awards and prizes on international, national and municipal competitions and festivals thanks to the caring and tireless work of its renowned conductors. Major achievements since 2008 • Annual ‘Singing Youth’ Competition – Gold and Gold Diploma qualification in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017 • National Choir Festival – Érd, Hungary – Gold qualification and ‘Nivo’ Prize • International Youth Music Festival Gödöllő – 2nd Prize (2012) • Zoltán Kodály 7th National Choir Competition, Budapest – Silver Diploma, Conductor’s Special Prize (2016) • Alba Regia International Children Choir Festival – Székesfehérvár, Hungary (2017) • Zoltán Kodály 8th National Choir Competition, Budapest – Gold Diploma, Special Prize of the Kodály Society(2016) • Annual ‘Singing Youth’ Competition – Gold Diploma (2019) The 61 members of the choir are between the age of 10 and 14 studying music based on a custom crafted curriculum. The work of the choir is led by Andrea Somogyiné Kovács and Adrien Szalárdiné Szondy since 2016 focusing not just on the performances and competitions but also on the continuous improvement and extension of the repertoire from the renaissance to the contemporary music.
Adrien graduated in 1993 from the University of Nyíregyháza and since then she taught in various schools in Nyíregyháza, Budapest and Gödöllő. Besides her job as a teacher Adrien works as a conductor from the beginning and she performs with her choirs on local, regional and national stages. On the series of the ‘Singing Youth Qualification Competition’ her choirs usually receive gold or gold with a diploma qualification. In 2018 her choir received a special prize of the Kodály Association and a gold diploma on the 8th Zoltán Kodály National Choir Competition. Adrienn participated on the International Kodály Seminar and completed the postgraduate conductor course of the Hungarian Cultural Institute and ever since she participates on master courses like the Cantemus Conductor Master Course last summer. Andrea graduated from the University of Eger in 1991 and has led school’s choirs since then in Miskolc and Gödöllő in additional to her educational work. On the series of the ‘Singing Youth Qualification Competition’ her choirs usually receive gold or gold with a diploma qualification. An important milestone of her career was winning 1st prize on the Olomouc International Choir Competition in 2014, a conductor special prize and a silver diploma on the 7th Zoltán Kodály National Choir Competition in 2015, gold diploma on the 8th Zoltán Kodály National Choir Competition and the 3rd Laurea Mundi International Competition in 2018. Andrea completed the postgraduate conductor course of the Hungarian Cultural Institute and regularly participates on master courses ever since to keep up with the new techniques and practices in conducting.
