Cesis Castle Choir (Cēsu Pils koris) was founded in 1995 and since its beginnings gathers very passionate amateur choral singers. Latvia has long standing choral traditions–Latvian Song and Dance Nationwide celebration is one of the largest amateur choral and dancing events in the world. In last Latvian Song Festival Choral Finals Cesis Castle Choir was honored a title as one of the top 15 choirs of Latvia. Cesis Castle Choir is actively involved in the cultural life of its home town as well as in the activities of the wider choral society in Latvia. Last 5 year international achievements are: • Grand Prix at the 8thKaunas Cantat competition in Lithuania (2018) • 3rd Place in Folk music category in 51. InternationalerChorwettbewerbSpittal, Austria (2014); • Gold Medal and 1st Place in Mixed Choirs Category in the 2nd International Gdansk Choir Festival, Poland (2013); • 3rd Place in the International May Choir Competition Prof. Georgi Dimitrov in Varna, Bulgaria (2012).
Marika Austruma ( born 1976) Mrs Marika Austruma is not an ordinary conductor in front of the choir – she has a very impressive work experience, education, passion for music and captivating soprano. As a conductor and artist of professional state choir “Latvia” , artistic director of “Cesis Castle choir” and teacher at Ogre Music School, she is a true inspiration for anyone who loves choral music. Evita Konuša ( born 1981) Mrs Evita Konuša has been working as a choir conductor and music school teacher since her graduation from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in 2005. In addition to being engaged with the Cēsis Castle Choir, currently she is also working with two other choirs of Latvia -”Grīva” in Ogre and Lielvārde Music and Art school Children’s Choir “Lielvārde”.In year 2018 Evita Konuša was honoured as the best conductor both in the Kaunas Cantat competition in Lithuania and in the V Children and Youth World Choral Championship in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. The same year Evita Konuša was awarded a special prize for conducting by the jury of The International Music Festival Bratislava Cantat in Slovakia.Back to the list of ensembles
