The newest addition to the family of the Yambol choir school “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov” was created in February 2015 in the city of Sofi a. The current members of the Sofi a Choir are alumni of the Yambol Choral School with many years of experience in singing since childhood. Their pursuit of professional development lead them to the big city, but their everlasting passion for choral music and their special bond brought them back together to create this unique creative project. Despite the limited time since its creation, the Sofi a Choir has amassed a plethora of successes, including its participation in the VIII and IX Thracian choir festivals in Yambol, their debut abroad in the 56th international festival for sacred music “Virgo Lauretana” in the city of Loreto, Italy, as well as their participation in Malta International Choir Festival in 2017, where it received two Awards of Excellence. The choir‘s vast repertoire consists not only of a variety of Orthodox and Catholic chants, but also of secular musical works from diff erent genres and of arranged Bulgarian folklore songs. Artistic director and conductor of the Choir School Prof Georgi Dimitrov and its Sofi a formation is Vesela Pastamadzhieva.
Vessela Pastarmadzhieva has been the conductor of the Choral School “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov” for over 35 years. She inherited the love and passion for the choral art from her mother Stefka Pastarmadzhieva, the founder of the school and a revered musician. Vessela Pastarmadzhieva graduated from the Academy of Musical and Dancing Arts in Plovdiv. She has been a member of the board of the Bulgarian Choral Union for many years, as well as the founder and artistic director of the International Thracian Choral Festival in Yambol. In 2015, she created a new choir in Sofi a. Together with the Children’s Choir “Prof. G. Dimitrov” and later with the Female Choir and Sofi a Choir she has represented Bulgaria on more than 40 international choral events.Back to the list of ensembles
